Haiku Friday Volume 15 - Celebrating Life

Yesterday I went
to a local restaurant
with my two best friends.

Celebrating my
birthday early, Carol's late
as we always do

with an ocean view.
Wine and bread to start the meal ...
Hula pie to end.

In between my 'fav' ...
Seven spice Ahi with boc
choi & mango ... YUM!

Memories of this
and our visit afterwards
back at Carol's house

sipping tea are with
me this morning as I sit
typing this Haiku.

Yet tomorrow is
February 23rd,
day that I was born

1945
so I will be sixty-three!
Happily retired

I've been now for years,
doing mainly what I choose ...
grateful every day.

Memories and plans
running freely in my mind
as I simplify

clearing clutter out ...
making room for only those
things I love around

me ... creating a
place of joy to celebrate
as I live each day.

Possibilities!
Who knows what this rainy morn
holds in store for me?

What I know for sure
is I plan to celebrate
and enjoy it all!

Karen – Thanks … I loved the e-card and will open it often over the next few days just to laugh. Hula Pie is Duke’s version of Mudd Pie and it’s delicious!

JJ – It is! I seldom indulge in desserts, but my birthday is an exception to that policy!

Ivanoe – Thanks for the birthday wishes and for visiting my blog three times already this week. I’m a relatively new blogger myself and it’s fun to meet another “newbie” in this virtual world.

I hope you’re all having a delightful day and wish you a wonderful weekend!

Happy Birthday! (early and all!) Ya Know...I don't think we can get Hula pie anywhere around here -- or mudd pie either for that matter!!! Sounds great!

Sounds absolutely lovely. The time with your friends and the place you find yourself in life right now. Just wonderful!
Happy Birthday!

Transplanting – Thanks and yes … yum! I’m happy you finally have Internet at home.

PJ – I appreciate the warm (early) birthday wishes. If you’re ever in So Cal I’d be happy to share a piece of Hula Pie with you at Duke’s anytime. Thanks for visiting and leaving the link back to your blog.

Kathryn – Yes … I do feel blessed and fortunate with where I am in life and celebrating with friends each year is a marvelous tradition.

Hugs and blessings to you all!

Happy Birthday to you, dear Storyteller. May you enjoy many more.

I very much enjoyed the story you told in your series of Haiku . . . It just flowed along.

Thank you for visiting me, too, on this Friday Haiku day. :)

Bren – Yup … I’m a lucky gal! Thanks.

Scylla – I appreciate you visiting Small Reflections so I could follow the link back to your blog. Thanks also for the b-day wishes!

SecretAgentMama – I’ll be re-reading these comments tomorrow too when the lovely wishes will be “on the mark” so thanks!

Joyce – I love Haiku Fridays … writing my own … reading everyone else’s … savoring comments and writing responses. Of course it helps to be happily retired with lots of time most Fridays.

I hope you’re all having a delightful day too!
Hugs and blessings,

Happy Birthday!

Oh and that 'ku just made my little bowl of cup 'o noodles that much sadder. Must have hula pie, now!

Happy Birthday! You're even older than me - why aren't you dead? :> I guess I'm feeling old today. I gotta snap outta it.

I hope when my birthday comes around I will have good friends to celebrate with, too. And maybe even some Hula Pie.

Happy Birthday! I'm glad you had such a fun celebration for it :)

I'm saying Happy Birthday now as I am going to a retirement workshop tomorrow from 9-3!

An ocean view! I'd die for it! And Hula pie too but I'm not sure what it is!??

I'm going to try to get a grip on my future and enjoying it as you are despite all my never-ending health issues!1

Happy Birthday! Love your poems -- it sounds like a great celebration and a good start to a great year.

Sandy – Thanks! I’m always happy to generate smiles and/or peace in others.

Blessedw4Mom – I love to write them, and it’s good to know you enjoy reading them. I am blessed with wonderful friends.

SSP – Thanks and wish your mom happy birthday from me. My sister’s a Pisces too, born March 8th. My mom was Aquarius (born the 11th) and Carol is too (born the 15th).

Jenni – Thank you very much. I’ll do my best to enjoy every moment.

MamaGeek – Heheheh … thanks! I love Haiku Friday!

MamaDB – Sorry to create sadness over your lunch. I’d love to share another piece of Hula pie with you (though next Thursday’s weigh-in might not be so good if I followed through on that whim).

Eve – Yup … I’m ancient but well-preserved. LOL

Marylin – Thanks … me too! I’m most fortunate!

MoI – Enjoy the retirement workshop. I remember the ones I attended before I decided to take the district up on the “golden handshake” … I asked a million questions! The amazing thing about retiring young is that I’m healthier now than while I was working … seriously! Anyone who sees me says I look 10 years younger … and I feel that way too!

Tina – Thanks for the kind words and the birthday wishes. I love creating these Haikus each week a whole bunch. I do T-13s on just one blog but Haiku Fridays on both blogs!

Yertle - Thank you … and it definitely was! We’ve done this thing for a long time now and have it down to a science … with photos from each one too so we can see how well we’re aging. LOL

I appreciate all of you visiting and thanks for all the kind words and birthday wishes! If I’ve not been to your blog already, I’ll get there later today or over the weekend.

Hugs and blessings to you all!

Birthday greetings from a new reader! Found you through another haiku lover.

Janet – Thanks! I’ve shared photos of our lunch at Duke’s this morning in Saturday’s post … so you can all see what Hula Pie is first-hand!

Mama Zen – Actually it was early when you left the wishes, but right on time as I read them. Thanks.

AtomiK Kitten – Ah … I have trouble with my fingers too sometimes. Check out today’s post at Small Reflections and see for yourself.

AFF – In many respects, 63 is better than 23! I’ve been happily retired now since June of 2001 … and nothing tops that! Please pass along my best wishes to your parents when their birthdays roll around.

Mike – I appreciate any and all birthday wishes … so thanks a bunch! And … Happy Belated Birthday to YOU!

MPJ – YES! Your timing was spot on! I found your birthday Haiku just now ;--)

Wenda – It’s nice to meet you this morning. I’ve left a comment on your blog and will return to visit further when time permits.

I appreciate all of your lovely birthday wishes and sincerely hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.
