Camera Critters #6 & Unconscious Mutterings #7

I started a week late so today is my 6thMisty Dawn started the meme and explains the rules here:
Molly meets a new friend ...
... 11th month old 'Molly'
visiting from Yorba Linda who is even
whiter than she is and about the same size already!

While sitting on my front patio in last week's 'heat wave' ... reading Baldacci's STONE COLD, the fellow pictured here walked by with his lab puppy ... on their way to Dog Beach. The two Molly's frolicked together joyfully for a while as we marveled at how similar they are to one another. You'll note he's trying to capture the moment with his camera phone as I did with my Casio Exilim. No doubt this pup will be larger than Molly when she's full grown, but in the moment ... one might have mistaken them for twins from the same litter.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Alas ... methinks I have a gopher in my yard.
I noticed this hole yesterday between the hydrangea and the house as I was taking 'rainy day' photos to share in yesterday's post. It was filled with water, but there's another hole around the corner of the house on the side (like a back door) too. I had a gopher once years ago living under the grassy area of my yard and I think my 'ex' used poison of some kind ... but I'm afraid to do that now because Ms. Kitty hangs out in this area.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

I'm participating for the 7th time today.
How about you?

What comes to YOUR mind?
If you'd like to play here, copy and paste the clues in comments along with your responses ... or post on your blog and let me know so I can visit ;--)

Here are MY responses:
I say ... and you think ... ?

I say ... and you think ... ?

  1. Referral :: letter ... I've certainly written a bunch of those in my lifetime
  2. Indiana :: methinks everyone might say 'Jones" because of the new film release, but 'Gary' came to my mind musically this morning ... recalling The Music Man sound track
  3. Foil :: contrasting character to the protagonist in a theater production (my mind seems stuck on a theme this morning)
  4. Horizon :: another song ... 'Sunrise, Sunset' ... from Fiddler on the Roof
  5. Event :: Horizon ... seems like there was a sci fi film by this name about a decade ago about a Black Hole
  6. Sailing :: Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean films
  7. Footage :: raw, unedited filmed material
  8. Sunday :: in the Park with George
  9. Breathtaking :: Grand Canyon (I did love this offbeat film with Danny Glover)
  10. Dude! :: Jeff Bridges as The Big Lebowski

Your turn: I say ... and you think ... ?

  1. Referral ::

The two white dogs could be brothers! I don't know what to do about a gopher... Here in New York City they've taken poisons off the market. Do you think he could get into your house? I'd call an exterminator and not watch what he does...Yikes!

Barb said...

The two Mollys sure could pass as twins! I hope they can get together for play time again. :)

I don't know if a live trap would work with a gopher or not. Hmm..

Sue – They did have fun … and so did we ;--)

Sandy (of I Beati) – Molly’s definitely a sweetie … easy to have around loose in the front yard. She knows better than to go in the street and doesn’t wander off … even when coaxed, but loves to greet passers-by on their way to and from the beach.

Sandy M – Thanks! I’ve been visiting Camera Critters posts so I’ve not seen anyone elses ‘mutterings’ but I enjoyed today’s words … and the thoughts that showed up on the page as my fingers typed.

Akelamalu – She certainly did enjoy herself. Today we’ve got a visiting Labradoodle named Lucy for Molly to play with … when the rain stops.

Michele – Yup … they’d disappear into the snowy scene for sure! Thanks for the compliment about my photos. I pretty much point and shoot, but the camera has some nifty automatic features that help me out a whole bunch. I just don’t get ‘close-ups’ in focus very often. I appreciate your enthusiasm for my blog ;--)

Juliana – I wish the ‘other Molly’ lived close enough to visit. They played quite well together last weekend.

Mary, the teach – Hope you’re having a lovely birthday celebration! I hadn’t thought about him getting into my house! Yikes indeed!!! Maybe I should call an exterminator today … but I’m worried about Ms. Kitty’s well-being. Actually, they’d need to be ‘sisters’ … both are named Molly ya know ;--)

Skittles – Me too … though I suppose it’s not likely. The meeting was quite serendipitous. I have no idea how often they come to the beach … and I suspect they parked on my street because of the crowds (due to last weekend’s heat wave), but perhaps they’ll remember us and stop by on their next visit. I don’t really want to kill the gopher, but I don’t want it living in the yard either. As an experiment a little while ago, I put bricks over the two holes this morning and am hoping it will move somewhere else … hopefully not in my yard. I suspect I'm courting danger ;--)

How fun to find your comments. I hope you’re all having a marvelous Memorial Day weekend! Thanks for spending a bit of it here.

Looks like the Mollys had a wonderful time ~ after having their "stonecold" ice cream.

No gophers around here, sorry I can't help.

Those two Mollys look so much alike! It looks like they were having so much fun.

Love the pictures of Molly and her friend!
Glad you stumbled into a theme on your mutterings because that brought up good memories (for example, I really like Sunday in the Park with George, but hadn't listened to the music in a while - it's playing as I write this)
We matched on a few mutters, as it happens (we had the same idea for footage and I had Lebowski for Dude, too)
I hadn't thought about the movie Grand Canyon in quite a while, but I quickly began to recall big pieces of it and think I'll watch it tonight. (That's how I discovered Warren Zevon)

I love the association with Gary Indiana being from Music Man!! Very clever thinking on your part.

Wow! What a cool surprise! I can't get over how much they look alike - they could definitely pass for twins. AND, they have the same name?!?! Wow - Twilight Zone moment! What a cool post.

Good fun to have friends around.

Wow! Molly and Molly are alike! Maybe they can be friends! The mutterings were fun to read!

Good luck with the gopher, they are hard to do anything with.

oh my.....they really do look alike. wow!

As for the gopher.....I'm clueless. sorry I can't help.
Happy CC!

They do look like twins in these photos, and they look like they're very excited to meet each other!

I have a very white lab also, sweet Annie, although she has a little gold mixed in. I LOVE labs. Our Annie is a part of our family, and I can't imagine life without her.

Cool gopher. You'll have to name your new visitor. :o) Thanks for sharing!

Me & my puppies – They certainly did … (chuckling here at the ‘stonecold’ ice cream reference). I thought Molly was white (with just a touch of yellow on the tips of her ears & tail … and the backs of her hind legs … and ‘eyeshadow’ that makes her look as if she’s wearing makeup) until I met this new Molly puppy (who had no yellow anywhere … and no dark marking around her eyes).

ChrisB – How cool to discover we have this in common. I love the camera but really don’t know much about all the features even though I’ve owned it a few years now. It’s fun to take video clips occasionally and the various automatic ‘settings’ for various conditions and subjects are very handy!

Anna – We let them play for about 15 minutes before the guy and young Molly wandered off to meet his wife & family at Dog Beach. Apparently he’d dropped them off there with another dog and gone in search of parking on the street since none was available in the lots near the beach. That’s how they happened by our house in the first place.

Gracie – How cool! I’m glad my ‘mutterings’ prompted some good memories for you. I’ll be over to check yours when I finish responding to comments here.

Hootin’ Anni – Well … ya know I’m a California Gal … born & bred … so most references to other places tends to come from such ‘associations’ … therefore, I don’t know if ‘clever’ is accurate. LOL

Misty Dawn – It was a huge surprise … very ‘Twilight Zone’ like now that you mention it. This happened last Sunday, shortly after I published my Camera Critters #5. I was sorely tempted to amend that post, but decided to wait until this week so I could finish reading my book and enjoy the lovely weekend weather … and so no one who had already visited would miss it. This weekend I need to read A Thousand Splendid Suns because Book Club is Thursday … but here I sit at the computer ;--)

Indrani - You’re right about that!

Sharon – Yorba Linda is quite a ways from here … so they’re not likely to be friends, however we do have several neighborhood ‘labs’ …(along with other breeds)… that Molly likes to play with … and she always finds playmates at Dog Beach when we visit.

Corey – It really felt surreal at the time … in fact I checked the puppy’s tag and showed her master’s Molly’s tags as we laughed watching them frolic together. I’ve tried putting a brick over both entrances hoping to encourage the critter to ‘move on’ … but that may backfire I suppose. I really don’t know what to do, but am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I hate to call an exterminator, but may need to do so.

Rhea – Molly’s always excited to meet ANY fur-friend … but they did play together nicely. I’ve loved all my dogs throughout the years … from Beagles to mutts of all kinds. Molly is such a sweetheart. I was looking for a ‘chocolate’ lab initially, but she stole my heart! I don’t know how ‘cool’ this ‘gopher’ is. Methinks I don’t want to ‘name’ the new ‘critter’ however because I’m hoping he moves on before destroying my yard seriously!

Thanks everybody for visiting and sharing your thoughts! I hope you’re having a great holiday weekend!

Great story.

They do look like twins having a very wonderful time!
Can't help with the gopher - I liked Texas Travelers comment about feeding it - not sure I'd want it around forever.
Have you heard "Caddyshack" music? :)

storyteller said...

Ratmammy – Their collars were a different color and ‘young visiting’ Molly on a long red lead … and, of course, my Molly is BEAUTIFUL as well as sweet … but they could be twins ;--)

ThroughThickAndThin – I think so too … but of course I’m biased. I’ve not seen the gopher himself … just the two holes. Yesterday I covered the two holes with bricks and no NEW holes have appeared, so perhaps the critter has moved on? (I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best here)

Shannon – They did enjoy playing together. I don’t like gophers either because I’m afraid they’ll destroy my lovely yard by eating the roots of my plants. Thanks for the feedback about my mutterings. The words were ‘fun’ this week!

Deb – I was surprised that I remembered … but the images were ‘fixed’ in my mind somehow. I took (and dumped) many pictures with half of both dogs because they moved so quickly, but by taking LOTS of photos … I did end up with a few keepers. I also took a couple of video clips of them playing together.

Troy (of the Texas Travelers)
I have no idea WHAT one feeds a gopher … and methinks I don’t WANT a gopher living in my yard … so I wouldn’t want to encourage it to stay.

Carletta – If you’re referring to the movie Caddyshack … it seems to me Kenny Loggins sang the theme … but my memory isn’t what it used to be.

I’m delighted to find all your comments this evening as I sit down to watch TENNIS. The French Open began today and I’ve got a few hours of 1st day play recorded to enjoy. Hope you’re all having a marvelous Memorial Day weekend!

I don't know anything about gophers (except that they're the University of Minnesota's basketball team), so I'm no help to you. That's a huge, whopping hole!

I'm plagued with the small three-striped chipmunks. They tunnel in my planters--the darned things.

oh i think that there having fun. A gopher they can be a pest

Storyteller,

Molly is a beauty. Looks like a great time!

I'm afraid I don't know what to do about the gopher. :-(

I enjoyed your meme. You came up with more imaginative responses than I did. Here's a sample:
Foil - aluminum. LOL

Hugs,
Tina

Ari_1965 – Sorry you’ve got squirrels wreaking havoc in your planters. I’ve not seen the gopher for a day now … but I’ve filled in the two holes and put bricks over the entrances and am hoping the critter(s) will move on. So far … so good, but I guess we’ll see as time goes on.

Lilli & Nevada – They definitely had fun together! As for the gopher … methinks they can be pests as well and that’s why I’m concerned!

Tina – Thanks. I think she’s a beauty myself, but I’m biased ;--) As for the meme, some weeks my answers seem ‘ordinary’ and uninspired, but this week I was on a theatrical ‘role’ … or roll as the case may be ;--)

I appreciate each of you taking time to visit and share your thoughts.

Hi!

Is the pup really named Molly also? What a singular coincidence! They recognized each other, didn't they!

About the gopher? Check the law. It is illegal here to kill them. You can only move them. Because they are so important to the ecology (eating grubs, aerating soil, etc etc). And I think they are so cute. Unfortunately the cats kill them occasionally. But we don''t have neighborhoods here, just a house now and then, and yards are sort of outgrowth of the woods. Good luck! I'm glad it won't get killed.

Karen – Thanks for playing along. I appreciate the fact that you do and always enjoy your answers. I’m curious about ‘Events’ being a ‘Pain in the butt’ and think there must be ‘stories’ to share on that one. Bloody Sunday??? Seriously?

AppleDebbie – Labs are the best ever! They’re soooooo sweet. Molly says ‘woof’ … that's 'lab' for thanks ;--)

Andrée – Yez … it was definitely some coincidence that makes me smile in remembrance as I type this response. I hadn’t thought about the legalities involved, so thanks for the ‘heads up’ … I will check that out. For now, all seems well. I’ve covered up the two holes with bricks and no new ones have cropped up … so I’m hopeful they gophers have moved on.

I appreciate each of you visiting and sharing your thoughts. Hope you’re all having a wonderful Wednesday! I’m trying to clear out the more than 300 accumulated email messages while I watch Nadal play his (much delayed) 1st round match (previously recorded so I can fast-forward through ‘commercials’ to save time) against a newcomer on the scene named Belluci … in very windy conditions making it quite competitive.
