latest book. THE DARKEST NIGHT
OF THE YEAR? It's a
story about dogs
and a girl who rescues them
'til they rescue her
along with a guy
that she loves ... Mysterious
tale of connections.
Now it's DUMA KEY
that I'm reading. Stephen King
like he used to write
long ago about
such unlikely folks who meet
up ... becoming friends
as they encounter
unexplainable events.
I'm about a third
of the way through this
one. It calls to me as I
write this morning's 'Ku
so I shall be torn
as I've been of late because
blogging is such fun.
How to balance all
in a day ... becomes the real
challenge, does it not?
Have you been to my

I just finished reading Duma Key a couple of weeks ago. I think it is the best book he has written in quite a while and I have added it to my top three favorites of King's (the others are The Stand and I). Though I like most all of them, those are the ones I would take with me if I were to be shipwrecked.
Good Morning, Storyteller,
My Middle School-aged daughter says, "A book report using Haiku? That's such a good idea!" I think she's going to try it on her teacher and see what happens. :)
Have a beautiful day.
I haven't read those, but I've always been a Stephen King fan. I'll have to check them out. Thanks!
"So many books, so little time"--true for so many people! If it were me, I'd forgo the blogging and dive into the book--it such a luxurious feeling, sinking into a book.
I've never read any Stephen King books (though I remember Mark going through a phase in which he read all of them [at that time] straight)--which would you recommend for a newbie?
not a huge stephen king fan, but do understand the painful conflict do i read or do i blog... oh, sometimes it's just so difficult!
read ... blog ... or SLEEP!!!
oh the conflict!
Melissa Markham – The Stand is one of my favorite reads too. Duma Key ‘feels’ like King’s earlier works … but it also seems ‘autobiographical’ following the horrible accident when he was struck by a car a few years back.
Joyce – The teacher in me applauds your daughter for this imaginative idea and I can only hope her teacher will appreciate her ‘Ku-ing Book Report as well ;--)
Kathryn – I’ve read King for decades and like some of his books better than others. His short stories can be terrifying, but hard to put down.
Karen – Wow … this is a tough one because the man is so prolific! ‘Salem’s Lot’ is what made me a fan initially. In my opinion, his books are always better than the films made from them. I liked reading ‘The Shining’ … ‘The Stand’ … ‘Misery’ … ‘Cujo’ … ‘Hearts in Atlantis’ and ‘The Green Mile’ more than books like ‘Needful Things’ … ‘Bag of Bones’ … ‘It’ and ‘Dreamcatcher.’ Night Shift and Skeleton Crew are interesting collections of short stories and ‘On Writing’ was an interesting look inside his mind as a writer. How to choose? I don’t know … trust your intuition I guess.
Transplanting Me – Yes … here I am at the computer. I’ve read and commented on a number of blogs and am responding here … thinking about a topic to write about on my other blog … hearing the siren call of King’s book while ignoring Molly’s stare … striving for balance … wondering at myself.
Janet – Sleep? I do that at night only! So for me (at the moment) … the choice is read, blog, or play with the dog.
I hope you’re all having a marvelous morning! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
Hugs and blessings,
Morning! I've not been able to read Stephen King. I get way too freaked out! He's too good.
I love it when I find a book that holds my attention and I can't put it down. I've read some real stinkers lately.
I love your Haiku. It seems such a natural way for you to express yourself.
Wow, you did a book review in haiku! ;) And you cover other things too! Great job!
Happy Friday!
Hi!! Well, I don't know why my blog entries don't show up on others Readers...I have the feeds set in my blog settings to 'full' but still, I get others commenting that it doesn't work for them...there must be a code in my layout that is not accepting that, and I've looked and can't find what's wrong. Sorry. Just know I do blog every day, :::shrug::: that's all I can tell you. LOL
And then, to add a link in the comment section...[I'am assuming you meant that part anyway] When you write out your comment, and you want to leave a link...do the a href part. down below the box as you type a comment in blogger, you'll notice the a with this surrounding the a < > tag...type the < a href="*Someone's url here. dot com or net, org." --then the title [for instance] Click Here --then right after 'click here' with no space close the tag with the < /a>
Nice 'ku! I need more hours in my day for blogging and all the rest and then blogging about all the rest ;)
< a href="http://hootin--anni.blogspot.com" > Click Here < /a>
Just remember when you type all the above, leave NO spaces
MamaDB – Ah yez. He does ‘walk the dogs’ of fear very well doesn’t he? I have trouble with Peter Straub and Clive Barker, but usually King’s novels are manageable for me. You might like Dean Koontz better. There’s a lightness in his writing that overcomes ‘fear’ … except for INTENSITY. You can skip THAT one if King scares ya!
Eve – Why thank you so much … and you’re right, of course. Haiku does come quite naturally to me for some reason. I love the form itself and that’s why I always write two … and now I’ve joined One Single Impression too ;--)
Mariposa – Hey … a gal’s gotta do what a gal’s drawn to do as a blogger, right? Congratulations on your first Haiku this week. I hope it will be one of many!
Hootin’Anni – I do know you blog daily … and usually have your post up early. I keep you in my ‘Reader’ to remind me to check. It just seems odd that your link used to show up but doesn’t now.
Thanks for the info about leaving links in comments. I know just enough that I think I understand … and with some experimentation I’ll figure it out. I appreciate you taking the time to help an older ‘newbie’ out ;--)
Maggie’s Mind – I know precisely what you mean. It’s all too much fun! LOL
Thanks to each of you for spending a bit of your blogging time with me. I hope you have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend!
Hugs and blessings,
Ah, you always find the most clever things to weave into your haiku's! I see you even comment in haiku's too. I find myself writing over the weekend in haiku's for a bit.....very distracting :)
I've never been able to read through Stephen King, I'm a big fat chicken.
It is nice to see SK back on his game. He had some real stinkers there for a while.
I too am behind on, well, everything. Time goes by waay to fast. Sigh..
I haven't read these books. I am not a fan of Stephen King but hubby is. I'm glad you are enjoying them. I love to read.
I understand about you getting rid of things. I'm doing a bit of the same here. Slowly but surely things are going to get organized around here.
Blessings,
Mary
Just got the new Dean Koontz, and I can't wait to read it!
Quite a take on SK's Duma Key -great haiku!
Sounds interesting. :) I have been wanting to read Koontz's book but haven't yet. And now I'll have to check out the Stephen King book too. :)
Totally impressed! A ku book report. Very creative! And, King of old? Really & truly?
Sandy – I just write about whatever’s in my mind when I arise on Friday mornings. I’ve tried to ‘plan ahead’ … but somehow I’m never happy with the results and wind up dumping them anyway, so it’s a waste of time. Yes … when the ‘spirit moves’ … I enjoy commenting in Haiku on Fridays, but it slows me down and I don’t get to as many blogs. I try to catch up on the weekends when that happens.
Melissa – You’re right! I got pretty tired of him for a while, but this one holds my attention like his early works did. I suspect you’ll enjoy it if you liked him way back when.
Mary – I love to read all kinds of books … and my house looks kinds of like a library with bookshelves in every room. Blogging has eaten up so much time the past few months that books are stacking up. Now that I’ve started to read again … I spend less time at the computer. Let your 'hubby' know I recommend these ;--)
MamaZen – It’s a good one! Quick … easy … filled with doggies (as Koontz books so often are) and intriguingly mysterious connections. I suspect you’ll enjoy it.
Tumblewords – I’m a little more than half way through Duma Key at the moment and it’s better and better all the time … just like his early novels. Interesting characters encountering unusual phenomena … not particularly ‘scary’ … just pretty cool!
Lisa Marie – If you like these authors, you’ll enjoy these books!
AFF – Thank you for your kind words. I’m not sure it qualifies as a ‘book report’ … it’s more of a ‘teaser’ … but yes … Duma Key reads like the King of old …(at least so far)... really and truly!
I hope you’ve all had a fantastic Friday! I appreciate each of you visiting and sharing your thoughts. If I’ve not been to your blogs yet today, I’ll get there over the weekend.
Hugs and blessings,
I love to read. I wish I would figure out how to get more of this in my world.
But, nothing is more important than how beautiful the quote is at the top of your page. Love. It.
*smoochies* dear friend.
Great ku! I used to read Koonz and King constantly! It's been so long since I read a non-children's book! Ack!
I saw your comment on Momisodes, and I'm totally freaked! I had NO idea... and I still really don't know why in the world that would be happening. I'll see if I can figure it out once we get settled in our new rental. So very sorry about that!
I love Stephen King...though I haven't read so much of his stuff as seen it. I loved your Haiku Virginia....you packed everything possible in it. Have a great weekend sweetie....
I'll have some lemonade, please, while I'm visiting you.
I sure agree that it gets tough trying to balance each day in order to get in all the things you love and want to do.
I hope you have a good weekend.
Chuck – Thanks so much for helping me figure out HOW to put that ‘sticky quote’ at the top! As for reading more … methinks it’s simple. Ya sit down with a book and just do it! LOL Of course, I’ve only recently figured that out for myself ;--)
Lotus – Ah … I just sent an ‘email’ response, but will leave a public one too just because I can. One thing I didn’t mention in my email is that letting your kids ‘see you read for pleasure’ is one way to enhance their love of reading. (Sorry … the teacher in me just had to add that bit of research for all the parents who might be reading this comment).
Joy – I think you’d like Duma Key! I’m enjoying it immensely … though I’m just a little more than half way through currently. Thanks for the kind words about my ‘Ku ;--)
Betty – Of course you may! I make it daily with lemons from my tree. It’s delicious!!! As for ‘balance’ … I really can’t ‘complain’ because I have so much ‘discretionary time’ these days now that I’m happily retired … but sometimes I do wonder how I ever had time to work. LOL
I appreciate each of you stopping by and leaving a few words for me to discover this morning. May you all have a wonderful weekend too.
Hugs and blessings,
Storyteller,
Both books sound very interesting. I will have to add them to my must read list. Thank you!
hugs,
Tina
Tina - They’re ‘just for pleasure’ diversions, but I hope you enjoy them as much as I did ;--)
