Lately some Bloggers have posted a variety of photos with gorgeous autumn leaves and a lovely light dusting of the first snowfall. For balance, I thought I'd show what my neighborhood looks like when the Santa Ana winds blow :)
Today
these palm fronds
landed mostly in my neighbor's yard,
but often
they accumulate all over my yard,
hanging in the citrus trees and from the roof,
crushing my roses and flowers.

They fall from tall palms like these three trees.
Sometimes they litter the streets like thisand parking becomes a challenge
in our beach community
where most folks park on the street.
These palm fronds stay where they fall
unless those of us who live here
drag them out of the street
and into the alley
behind our houses for trash pick up.
Of course, we don't ever have to shovel snow
nor do we have many leaves to rake
so we don't complain
especially since the ocean is
a block and a half away :)

I gather they don't belong to you or your neighbour, but are council palms. How inconvenient.

Hi Annie,
Yes, it's inconvenient but no huge deal. Twice a month, the city does send around a street sweeper (closely followed by two trucks driven by officers who play "leap frog" as they stop to write tickets for anyone who forgets to move their car) and if the winds have blown recently, there might be another truck with a couple of guys to gather up what's left of the palm fronds... but the timing doesn't always work out. It's usually up to those of us who live here, but it comes with the territory ... and (as I mentioned) it's probably less frequent and easier to deal with than shoveling snow and/or raking leaves :)
It's a small thing after all. Hope your wrists are feeling better.
