7 Random Things About Me

I've decided to accept Annie's challenge and allow myself to be tagged for "7 Random Things" ... playing this kind of game for the first time. I've noticed other such "games" as I've meandered through the Blogosphere and think this could be fun (though I'm not sure who I'll "tag" yet & hope I'll do it right. Anyway ... here are the rules.

The Rules

  • Link to the blog of the person who tagged you.
  • Post these rules on your blog.
  • List seven random and/or weird facts about yourself.
  • Tag seven random [?] people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
  • Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting a comment on their blog.
7 Random Things

1. Everywhere you look in my house you'll see giraffes of all shapes, sizes, and media. People have gifted me with them most of my life. I suspect the underlying message has something to do with the fact that I'm tall and often stick my neck out ... speaking up for my beliefs. This summer at the Writers Retreat someone suggested it might be because giraffes have the largest heart of any mammal and I'm mulling that over even now.
2. I'm a recovering "pack rat" ... hoping to simplify my life and my surroundings ... no matter how long it takes.
3. If it's a horizontal surface, it collects reading and/or writing materials like a magnet attracts iron.
4. I've got floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in every room of my home ... filled to capacity and there are still stacks of books around the house waiting for a home. Guess I'll be paying yet another visit to Ikea sometime soon.
5. If you pick up a book, you'll see I've written notes in the margins of most because I like to carry on a conversation with authors as I read.
6. I don't watch much TV ... seldom go to movies even though I receive frequent invitations from friends ... but lately have spent LOTS of time on the computer exploring this virtual world (much to Molly's dismay). I suspect this too shall pass, for I'm what Barbara Sher calls "a scanner" ... jumping into things that interest me and running with them ... until something new captures my attention.
7. I love Starbuck's Christmas Blend coffee and that's what I'll be drinking for the next two months (though I buy the beans and brew mine at home because I was raised by a Dutch mom and have limited income now that I'm "happily retired" ...

So ... now that MY list is complete, I guess the next step is to "tag" 7 others ... so here goes: Lucy, Karen, Lisa, Sharon, Joy, Marlys, and Sunrise Sister you've been tagged with the following caveat:
I realize this is a busy week (with the Thanksgiving holiday and all) so if you're stressed and/or overwhelmed (or just don't choose to play for whatever reason) consider yourself "excused" until such time as the game appeals to you and time permits participation. :)

If you're reading this and you'd like to play ... consider yourself "tagged" as I did after reading Annie's post, but leave a comment and link here so we'll know where to find you.

Hmmm ... and now I'm supposed to leave comments on their Blogs letting them know they've been tagged. I wonder if there's a way to add a link to this post in a comment? Guess I'll find out soon.

*FYI Addendum (since we're all new and still figuring out this "link" thing):
11-18-07 -- Lucy cleverly left her own link that shows up after "Comments" ... but only if you're reading the posts one by one. In case you're reading them all at once, her list is here.
11-19-07 -- Karen's list can be found here.
11-24-07 -- I notice Sunrise Sister has posted her list here.

Thanks for including me. I don't have time to accept the challenge right now. Besides, I'm not sure that I can think of enough bloggers to tag. I like the "7 Random Facts" idea, so I'll probably get back to this at a later time.

I do understand and am glad you know how to take care of yourself. :)

If and when you DO get back to this idea at a later time, I hope you'll leave a link here so we'll know where to find your responses.

i'm in :-) i love "random" things, because i actually believe there is no such thing as random or insignificant :-)

did you know that giraffes are considered to be symbols of "farsighted perception"? this comes from the book "animal speak" by ted andrews...just wondering if that one may reside on those floor-to-ceiling bookshelves?
i definitely need some more shelves, because the stack by my bedside is threatening to overtake me during the night!
also, who has time for tv when there is so much good stuff to read? so many books (blogs) so little time.
i do, however, highly recommend seeing the movie, "lars and the real girl" if you choose to venture out. it is very sweet and well done in my humble opinion.

was that random????

thanks for tagging :-)

Lucy,
I've just taken a brief "skipping break" to release my anger and relax enough to recreate the comment I just lost here. Sigh! When will I learn to copy comments consistently before I try to preview and/or publish them? Here I go again ...

Thanks for being the first to accept the challenge and play this game. I loved the creative way you framed your responses in time frames and commented more specifically on your blog, but wanted to acknowledge your comment here also.

I want to know how you created the Seven Random Things link (highlighted in pink here) so that I'll know for future reference. There's so much I've learned, and so much I don't yet know!

I have three copies of TALL BLONDS (a quirky book about giraffes) each gifted to me by friends & family members, but I don't have the book you mentioned here. I think Kara mentioned it (or something like it) in Taos, but I've been trying to avoid stores while I clear out clutter from my surroundings. I got a list for later and will add this if it's not already there.

I promise that (should I decide to take in a movie) I'll check out "Lars and the Real Girl" ... but please don't hold your breath. I have trouble sitting all the way through films these days and prefer to catch them on DVDs ... watching them at home when the urge strikes.

You're definitely right about blogs ... this virtual world is seriously cutting into my book reading time!

Thanks Annie
Glad you enjoyed my list. I enjoyed everything about this Meme experience and learned how to do some new things ... though I confess I took time to "Google" the term to find out what it means, found a Wikapedia entry, read it a couple of times and am still not sure I fully understand ... though I do know how to pronounce the word finally and have a contextual sense of meaning). I also found something called "The Daily Meme" that seems to have a TON of information I've not had time to peruse but have "Bookmarked" for a rainy day when I've nothing better to do. :)

As for blogging ... I suspect I'll be around for quite a while as long as I'm having fun and learning new things (though maybe not quite as obsessively as I've been this month). It's good for the brain cells ... for I suspect as with most things ... it's "use them or lose them" ;-)

FYI -- Karen (see tagging link at the end of my post) has created her list of 7 Random Things on her Blog but hasn't added a link here (probably because she doesn't know how either ... we're both newbies after all).

Of course Lucy did her list yesterday and figured out how to leave a link, so you've probably visited her site already. It's fun to learn more about Bloggers here in the "virtual world" and Memes add an added dimension.
Hugs,

Hi Virginia,

Thanks for including me in this game of random facts. I, too, am feeling a little under the gun to get everything done before I leave for the holiday so once I return from my travels, I'll play full out. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

True to her word, Lisa has posted 7 Random Things about herself here:
http://www.theultimateyes.com/2007/12/7-random-things.html

Hmmm ... in case that doesn't show correctly in this box I'll break it up like this:

Yes ... that should get everyone who's interested to the right place. Thanks for playing on your own terms, with your own rules! It's the way things ought to be!

By the way, I discovered Khalil Gibran when I was in high school (though no one gave me a copy of The Prophet so I bought one of my own) and have been inspired ever since.

I'm not sure about the grated cheese, but maybe I'll give it a try one day ... just to see what the attraction is :)
Hugs and blessings,

Claire,
How fun that you took the time to track down MY list :)
Once upon a time I kept myself from buying books by avoiding stores. Nowadays (with Barnes & Noble sending me updates and coupons in email) the temptation's hard to resist, and it's fun to get packages delivered UPS. Sometimes I just can't help myself!!!
