Fun Monday #3 Memorable Moments & More

Southern Doll is hosting Fun Monday today!

She writes: "My girlfriends and I all have Bucket Lists. ... But what is the point of the list, if you don't actually work to check things off of it?
So here's what I want to know: What have you done in your life that was worth doing? I want to know the moments in your life that you hope will be the ones to pass through your mind when your time comes. ... I want to know all the moments, big and small, that make life sweet! If you don't already have a running list of these in your mind, you should! These moments help you remember how much your life is worth living, and we all deserve to enjoy it."

Actually I don't have a 'Bucket List' ... but here's MY list (for today) of 'memorable moments' in my life to date ... in no particular order ;--)

I'm grateful for my friends and family.

1. Although my sister is (and has been) 'on the road' with her husband for most of the last few years since they retired, our cell phone conversations keep us 'connected' and close. She calls when she's 'walking a mall' so we can 'shop' together ... driving down the highway ... settled into a new campground ... taking in amazing sights she wants to share ... turning in for the evening ... and/or making plans for the next few days. It's not the same as 'being' together, but it's certainly 'good enough' for now. This image reminds me of the 'swing' in our back yard as kids ... and that triggers a 'host' of family memories ;--)

2. Monday was 'Retired Gals' lunch ... (2nd Monday of each month for the past 7 years)... and 7 of my friends gathered to 'catch up' with one another. Little did I know decades ago when I entered the field of 'education' that I'd encounter such wonderful people and enjoy their company years after we no longer 'worked' together.

3. Yesterday I joined with 11 of my Red Hat Sisters at a local college theater where we all enjoyed an excellent performance of 'Gypsy' ... and afterwards visited over dinner at a nearby restaurant ... making for a wonderful Sunday afternoon & evening of fellowship.

4. Fur-friends like Molly & Ms. Kitty currently ... (Ralph, Charly, Zonker, Clyde, and Jesse in the past) ... fill my life with joyful experiences and memories.

I'm grateful for the 'serendipitous'
way my life unfolded

5. The 5 years I worked as a 'playground director' as I attended college ...(studying History and Literature)... introduced me to the joys & challenges of interacting with children of all ages and led me to the 'classroom' initially.

6. Although I didn't 'intend' to become a teacher, I have fond memories of my 34 years as an educator ... way too many to attempt to enumerate here ... but it's 'reassuring' to realize I've encouraged (and assisted with) the learning process of many kids & their families.

I'm delighted to be Happily Retired currently

7. Attending the Taos Writers Retreat last summer ...(and the Maui Writer's Conference in the Fall of 2001)... remain vividly life-altering experiences. I met wonderful people ... gained inspiration & self-confidence ... and here I am BLOGGING ;--)

8. Reading opened up me up to the larger world. Writing encouraged me to explore my inner 'territories' ... and each has generated 'memorable' moments I can revisit at will.

9. Gardening relaxes and inspires me. I'm grateful for my yard and the opportunity to cultivate this hobby in recent years. It's been fun to share flower photos on each of my blogs.

As I create this list for my 3rd Fun Monday, I realize it's the small things that come to mind most readily this morning ... but putting words to page doesn't do any of these experiences 'justice' ... nor does this post begin to convey the depth of feelings generated by today's challenge. I'm reminded of my list of
101 Things About Me created for my '101st Post' and realize it's just not possible to fully 'capture or convey' the essence of these moments here, but perhaps some of what I've shared will 'resonate' with similar events from your own life and/or cause you to check out some of the links I've provided over time in the About Me section of my sidebar where more 'details' exist. I've opted to focus on 'pleasurable memories' today ... but I'm vividly aware of the truth in these words ..."Things that were hard to bear are sweet to remember." Seneca

Meme Monday #4 - Make a Wish Meme and More

After being tagged by Linda at Are we there yet? who came up with this beautiful meme, Ivanhoe tagged me (and everyone on her Blogroll plus a few new Ultimate Blog Party friends) for this Make a Wish Meme.

After spending a week considering my fondest wish, I've concluded I'm 'content with life as is' although (like many others) I'd love to see Peace On Earth ... so I went with two 'Irish Blessings' that might help us achieve this goal in our lives. I posted my 1st Wish at Sacred Ruminations on Saturday.

So ... here's my 2nd wish!

Here are the Rules:
1. Think about what it is that you want more than anything, what your heart's desire and fondest wish is, and what it is that you would wish for if you were to see the above wishing star flame across the night sky.
2. Right click and SAVE the blank graphic below.
3. Use a graphics program of your choice and place your wish on this picture:

4. Post the Make A Wish Meme and your wishing star on your blog along with these rules.
5. Tag as many people as you like so that there can be wishing stars all across the Blogosphere and ask them to please link back to Linda so that she can see what wishes others have made and share those wishes with others.

Meme Monday #3 and Sharing of Awards

Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody!!!

Today's 'meme' comes from Give Me 5 Monday. The prompt last week was: "Give Me Five ways you like to de-stress, relax, wind down or kick back."


1. I love to play with Molly whose joy & energy know no bounds! She keeps me young & active ... healthy & whole ... generates laughter & merriment ... and makes new friends wherever we go. She's now 3 years old but believes she's a puppy and acts like one too.

2. I read ... (fiction and non-fiction ... poetry and prose) and I write ... mostly in my journal but sometimes creating word doodles. I quote myself from a previous post:

"My 1st "visual scribble" resulted in a veritable deluge of comments and led to others like it later on ... adding #2 here, #3 here, #4 here.

3. I get together with friends and catch-up with what's been happening in their lives while sharing what I've been up to as well.

4. I love to work in my garden and visit with neighbors ... sit on my patio and drink lemonade made with freshly squeezed lemons from my tree while enjoying the great outdoors.

5. Of course, I discovered the joys of blogging about 5 months ago and have taken to it in a big way ... as witnessed by what's here at Small Reflections and my other blog, Sacred Ruminations.

I confess that I wasn't sure how to even approach this task ... (in fact it's taken me a week to settle on this list) ... but I'm honored to be nominated and felt duty-bound to make a sincere effort, so here goes (with my apologies for all of you whose blogs I enjoy reading who didn't make the 'Top 5' today).

Here are my nominations (although as Chuck said ... please keep in mind I have other favorites, and this is really killing me):

1. Sandy at Momisodes is funny, endearing, and talented. She's a WAHM with a toddler who entertains her many faithful readers with delightful personal stories, wonderful photos with clever captions, and timely information on a variety of topics in addition to visiting & emailing her 'blogging buddies' constantly. I don't know how she manages everything, but I'm happy she's in this 'virtual' world.

2. Lucy of Diamonds in the Sky With Lucy and (more recently) Lucy Creates see's Lucy (of Peanuts Cartoon fame) as her 'alter-ego' ... and uses this 'playful, cynical, carefree, serious, helpful, loner' as her muse ... for inspiration and balance. This blogger is a 'middle-aged woman with the heart of a child' ... married to a photographer who takes gorgeous photos ... and shares her creativity daily.

3. At The Joy of Six, Joy (mother of 4 grown children & grandmother twice over) describes herself as a skeptical 'Blogaholic' who loves to hear and tell life's stories. She creates and shares humorous anecdotes based on personal experience along with sets of photos that elicit awe, laughter, inspiration, and wonder.

4. I first discovered Sandy Carlson at Writing in Faith through her unique and informative Thursday Thirteen posts, but soon found much richness to draw me back on other days of the week. She's a teacher, writer, wife & mother in addition to being a published poet. FYI -- She and another gal have just started a new blog, One Single Impression that is a community of poets writing and sharing haiku and other poetic forms.

5. Claudia at On a Limb, founder of the Open Grove. On this blog she 'shares her quirky experiences and impressions about holistic living, spirituality and life' and, in addition, she's the originator of the Everyday Kindness 'blog' movement.

So ... there you have it.

Mimi the Queen of Memes started a new Message in a Bottle Meme and suggests, "You are about to send a virtual Message In a Bottle across the Blog Ocean. Leave a message in the sand or on the bottle. Write anything you wish. Be a pirate or a poet. Serious or silly. Anonymous or not."

What message would you like to send out to the universe?

Directions:
1. Compose a message to place in your virtual bottle
2. Right click and Save the graphic above
3. Use a graphics program of your choice to place the message on the picture
4. Post the meme and these rules on your blog
5. Return your “Message In a Bottle” to me via email ~ mimiwrites2005 at yahoo.com, sign the Mr. Linky at Mimi’s site and leave a comment THERE telling her you’ve finished. IF YOU WANT YOUR MESSAGE TO BE ANONYMOUS PLEASE SAY SO.
