Why I Blog ... and Fun Monday #14

Rebecca of Reba's Ramblings celebrated her Blogoversary yesterday by hosting a Blog Carnival with a giveaway. She asked visitors recently to address the eternal question ... specifically the issue of why we blog. I endeavored to respond yesterday with a post on my 3rd blog ...(yup that means I posted on all three blogs yesterday so just call me kRaZy or oBsEsSeD) ... however, while I'm working on today's Fun Monday post for today, perhaps you can click on over and read ...
Why I Blog
If you decide to participate yourself, write your own reasons for blogging and drop by Reba's to read the reasons why others blog too. Be sure to leave a comment or link here so I can read yours too ;--)

Penny at Dungarees Ablaze is today's host. She writes ...
"Let’s hear about your favorite “Birthday”, it needn’t be your actual birthday just a "birthday" celebration. You can use one you planned, one you attended, one you crashed, just a fun time for this FUN MONDAY. "
8am addendum: While constructing a comment on Penny's Fun Monday birthday post, a few thoughts popped into mine that I've decided to add here. Birthdays didn't get much attention in my family ever, and I have few memories of those occasions. There was usually a cake with candles and some practical gifts ... most often items of clothes & an occasional 'game' to be shared (like Sorry or Clue). I did have a boyfriend who when I turned 16 threw a lovely surprise party for me (crashed by a former boyfriend briefly creating a bit of chaos that fortunately didn't last long or ruin the event for me). When I turned 50, my friends wanted to wear black ... but I told them I saw that birthday as a 'Crone's Ceremony' and planned to wear RED! I encouraged them to celebrate in like manner with me and most did, though my family went with 'black' for whatever reason.
I've spent enough time looking for photos to scan to share a birthday celebration to remember without much success. Because I'd rather visit other participants this morning (before I head of to Retired Ladies Lunch), I've decided to use today's Fun Monday as an opportunity to revisit and share how I celebrated MY most recent birthday online ... since back then few, if any, of you knew about me or my blog:

That hula pie looks wonderful! I'm so glad I don't pass a bakery on the way home - after today, I would certainly fall off the wagon if I did!

I blog to communicate...it's that simple for me!

Birthdays--I have mixed feelings! I want them to be special, but they seldom are. My parents didn't fuss about anyone's birthdays, and that attitude has just continued--so usually, I'm depressed on my birthday. I need to figure out something different--especially considering I'll be 40 on my next one!

Mary – Thanks for letting me know. I’ll try to drop by this afternoon when I return from Retired Gals Lunch, but I need to get myself showered & dressed soon.

Mariana – Thanks for the clarification. Of course … it makes total sense now! I must have been tired when I visited yesterday to have missed the association ;--)

ChrisB – I’m glad you enjoyed them. One just didn’t quite ‘cover things’ today for some reason. LOL

IamwhoIam – Thanks! This is a great topic and I’ve enjoyed reading of the celebrations of others. As for my last, it was memorable in many ways … but part of what made it so special was celebrating with virtual friends, so I'll look forward to yours.

Sayre – It is! We’ll be celebrating a friend’s birthday at Duke’s this week … so I’ll get another taste soon.

Karen – You’re back!!! How ‘kewl’ … I can hardly wait to catch up with you. I've missed you, but thanks for the postcards ... I hope you had a wonderful time. As for your 40th … I suggest that create a special day for yourself and savor it all. Remember … for me each decade gets a bit better!

To all – I just returned from a walk with Molly … stopped at the computer on my way upstairs to get ready for Retired Ladies Lunch and thought I’d take a minute to respond as I ‘cool down’ briefly. I enjoyed finding your comments and hope you’re having a marvelous Monday! I’ll be doing more visiting later when I return.
Hugs and blessings,

How fun for your friends and yourself to wear red! I will not be wearing black on my 50th - no way!

Hula Pie and the other food looks scrumptious. May all of your birthdays be festive.

Heather – It certainly made my 50th more fun and set the kind of tone for that decade I chose for myself!

Grace – Anytime I worry about getting older, I consider the alternatives and count myself fortunate. LOL

HulaGirlAtHeart – Heheh … whatever makes you happy seems fine with me. I hope you enjoy your birthday on Friday ;--)

Molly – Oh my … I’ll be humming that song for the rest of the evening now that you’ve put it in my mind! LOL At my age, choosing to celebrate in ways that work for me seem the wisest course. Thanks for the lovely wishes.

To all - I enjoyed a lovely lunch with my retired friends. We had great fun catching up with one another. To find your comments this evening is ‘icing’ on the proverbial cake. Thanks so much for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed Fun Monday as much as I did.

This might inspire a post for me. What's a blog carnival? Is that like the Haiku thing I've seen?

Happy Birthday.

Oh good for you that you wore red to your 50th. 50 is no age. And yay for celebrating with blog friends.
I love the quotes too, especially the last one.

Oh, and your court quotes are hilarious. :D

Grandy – If you decide to participate, please let me know so I can visit. I’m not sure what a Blog Carnival is … but methinks it’s a way to bring bloggers together posting on a similar issue (as with the Ultimate Blog Party a while back). I suppose there’s some place this term is defined specifically, but I’ve used it ‘in context’ here because Rebecca used it when she asked the question. My response is posted at storyteller’s Blog Rolls & Bling Blog rather than here, but I don’t know how many will actually visit because it's quite new.

Peter – Thanks … but my birthday was in late February ;--)

Jo – I appreciate the validation for my choices in wearing red to celebrate my 50th as well as in sharing jokes and quotes. I do what I can with what I have ;--)

To all – Thanks so much for dropping by and sharing your thoughts on my Fun Monday post. I hope you had a marvelous Monday and that today is another pleasant one for all.
Hugs and blessings,

Hula pie? We never did a lot for our birthdays while growing up eaither. Family, cake and a gift or two.

Love the quotes!

I love the quotes and your haiku...I could never write those!!

Storyteller,

I think you have the best attitude about birthdays. Wearing red is perfect! The only birthday that bothered me was when I turned 40. I didn't even know why. It really bummed me out. It wasn't until years later, that I remembered my mother commenting that I would really regret being the oldest sister because when I turned 40, I would be old and haggard while my youngest sister would still be young and beautiful and only 30 years old. I really think that sneaked into my subconcious because I could never explain my aversion to 40. I wasn't bothered by the thought of turning 41 or 80 - just 40. The mind sure can be strange sometimes.

I enjoyed your quotes, too!

hugs,
Tina

I’m glad to know you enjoyed the quotes I shared.

Lisa – Yup … Hula Pie is DELICIOUS! If you ever find yourself at a Duke’s (from Hawaii) be sure to try it.

Alison – I love writing in Haiku … and you might be surprised at what you could do. Starting with something simple and joining in with Haiku Fridays might open up a whole new world.

Tina – Hmmm … the unconscious is a powerful thing and the lessons we learned as children remain with us don’t they. I’m glad you figured out what it was because knowledge is power.

To all - Thanks everyone for your visit and kind words. I hope you're all having a marvelous week.
