Thursday Thirteen #13 Amazing Origami

Did you get to see the lunar eclipse last night?
I worried I miss it because of clouds and rain
in Southern California yesterday ...
but the skies cleared enough
to watch the whole show.
Awesome indeed!

Thirteen Amazing Examples of Origami 'Critters'

Recently I received an email with the following amazing images that seem interesting enough to share as a T-13 today. Apparently, "Last year, Simithsonian Magazine had a major article about origami and the incredible number of folds that can be made on a single small piece of paper like a dollar bill. Computer Program are also used to identify the number and location of folds for 'Olympic level folders' ... "

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Hello,

Those origami pieces are fantastic... how beautiful.

I missed the eclipse yesterday. :(

Have a great day!

Yhese are incredible!
Mine is up too, but I can't seem to reach the homepage of TT to register.
Am I the only one with that problem?

Have a great day!

Makes me want to take a dollar bill and see what I can make of it. I missed the eclipse and the 13 Thursday Hub.

NoNonsenseGirl – Thanks! I thought they were amazing as well. I’m sorry you missed the eclipse because it was spectacular! There’s a link at Tina Coruth’s blog to a site with more information and an animated illustration of the event.

Jientje – I’m glad you think so. I had trouble logging onto the T-13 homepage from the link I usually use, but was able to get there from Google Reader. I was later than usual and there seemed to be fewer than usual links … so I suspect there is a problem with the link and/or the page it’s self.

Colleen – I’ve always started with a square piece of paper, so I’m curious what I could create with a rectangle. Of course this morning I’m too busy visiting T-13s to play with paper. LOL

Thanks to all of you for stopping by and commenting. Happy T-13 to you and have a delightful day!

wow - did you make all those?
I did get to see the eclipse, most of it, then clouds took over here in Texas!

wow those are amazing
happy TT my first one is up!

Those are amazing...sadly I don't think I have enough patience to try any of them!!

Oh these are amazing. I'm going to have to forward this to my daughter who is great at origami...

DallasMeow – Heavens no! LOL … I don’t have enough patience to tackle anything so complex. I received them in email and think they were made by someone at the Smithsonian with the help of a computer. I just thought they were worth passing along because I thought they were amazing too. I’m glad you got to see at least some of the lunar eclipse.

Lady Rose – You did an amazing job on your 1st T-13. I can’t wait until I can return to enjoy the links at my leisure, but as I wrote in my comment there … I’ve got to leave soon if I want to make my WW meeting on time.

Annie – I clicked over to your T-13 but will need to return later to enjoy it because I’m crunched for time at the moment. As for patience, I’d never be able to slow down enough to tackle anything like this kind of project either.

Ellen B – I’m happy you’re going to share with her. I loved your T-13 “tour” of the Mission San Buenaventura. When teaching 4th grade, I used to take my students to the one in San Juan Capistrano each year, but it’s not quite so beautiful.

Thanks to all of you for stopping by and have a delightful day!

Gosh these are lovely. I would never have thought of something like this - so simple and so wonderful. Some people are just creative!

Happy TT!

Love the Origami!

And yes, saw the last bit of the moon.
You have pictures to come?

Mary P Jones (MPJ) said...

We took the kids out to watch the eclipse. It was a bit overcast where we were, so we didn't get a great view, but it was still fun to see the light of the moon disappear and return.

We could not see the eclipse for the clouds....shame.
Awesome origami, I am lucky I can fold papaer in half correctly.

My TT is up, but I cannot connect with the TT Hub today, so I am wandering via my blogroll.

Harlekwin said...

Marvelous! I liked the kitties, especially number four.

I did my darnedest to take pictures of the eclipse last night. I haven't transferred my pictures yet, so I don't know how much success I had. It was nearly over by the time it got to the west coast, but it was pretty cool.

Happy TT!! Thank you for visiting my post today.

Those are great. Happy TT.

Susan Helene Gottfried said...

Those are amazing. Especially the way they place the eyes. Wow.

I love origami.

btw, as for the TT hub, we did some poking around and the Tour Manager found that the name server is mucked up. I e-mailed Carol about it; hope she can fix the problem.

St, I just simply appreciate you!

Wow. Somebody did an incredible job!

And speaking of incredible-- we did get to see the lunar eclipse last night.

Ivanhoe said...

I love the origami! How can they make the facial features of some of them lined up with the print on the bill? It's amazing... The elephant and croc are my favorites.
P.S.: I was not able to get on TT hub at all today.

Andrea said...

Wow, those are really amazing!!

SandyCarlson said...

Storyteller, these are wonderful. I enjoy origami as a form of recreation and meditation and mathematics. It is sublime. These folds are interesting. I have never tried to use $$. I guess I never have enough lying around! I'll have to give it a go, though.

Chelle Y. said...

I bought my son and origami kit and it took me almost two hours to do one shape!

I threw the box away! Haha!

How do people think of these things? Amazing.

Loved you Jefferson quote.

Blogger just makes the whole commenting process difficult!

Those are great!

Mia Celeste said...

Wow. You made all those? You're talented.

Momisodes said...

Oh my goodness! Those were so neat! I wish I had the patience and talent for origami :) I only saw a quick glimpse of the eclipse...it was FREEZING out ;)

Claudia – I couldn’t agree more and wish I was as creative as this.

Jane – I’m glad you think so and it was my pleasure. I appreciate you following my link back here.

Nicole – Me too! I wish I had the patience to do it myself.

MPJ – I’m glad you all got to see the eclipse too.

Mama Bear – I’m sorry you missed it. I’m with you on the paper folding. I just don’t have the patience or the skill.

Harlekwin – I had no luck whatsoever with photographing the eclipse with my little digital camera but I enjoyed seeing it first hand.

Pussreboots – Thanks and happy T-13 back atcha ;--)

Susan – Thanks for the feedback about the hub. I didn’t think to send email but I suppose they might not know there was a problem w/o the feedback so I’m glad you did that.

TB – Ah shucks … (blushing a bit here) … thanks so much.

Mom Huebert – I’m glad you enjoyed these folded paper “critters” and that you got to enjoy the eclipse last night too.

Ivanhoe – I think they used a computer-generated program to fold these, but I agree that the placement of the eyes and such is phenomenal.

Andrea – Yup, I certainly agree!

Sandy Carlson – I’m happy you enjoyed them and I’d love to see what you come up with. I used to fold some origami with my students when I taught school … but I always started with a square rather than a rectangle.

Chelle – Origami is certainly time consuming and requires patience along with concentration.

ByrningBunny – I don’t know … but I’m glad they do. Thanks for the feedback on the quote and I’m sorry about the challenges Blogger presents for comments. I wish it was simpler and that we had access to email addresses so we could respond directly.

Nicholas – Thanks, I’m glad you think so.

Brenda ND – Hmmm … I’d love to take credit for them, but someone at the Smithsonian created these.

Sandy – Hey you! So … how many boxes left now? Sorry it was too cold for you to enjoy the eclipse. It was chilly here but with a jacket I managed just fine. Of course we have no snow on the ground. LOL

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and leaving comments while I was out celebrating my birthday with friends (a couple of days early). If I haven’t visited your blog yet today I’ll do so as soon as time permits over the next few days.
Hugs and blessings,

These are amazing!! I wish I had the patience and steady hand to do this. My son made me 2 beautiful swans that I will keep forever. What was stunning is that he did it so quickly! I couldn't believe it! BTW, does money work better than paper to form these??
Great TT and thanks for visiting mine!

I saw the eclipse. It was grand...Mary

My hubby does read my blog, but I made sure to give him the shirt before he had a chance to read my TT post!

These are so beautiful!! I'm trying to do more origami (because of CE2008), but I still haven't progressed past very simple folds. This is definitely an art that requires much practice and much patience!

storyteller said...

Lara – I think some people have a gift (or talent) for doing this kind of thing and others don’t. I’m amazed by these and marvel at how anyone could make them even with the help of a computer.

Mary Isabella – Wasn’t it amazing? I was spell-bound through the entire experience.

Jientje – Ah … I should have known you’d have a plan. LOL

Karen – You’re so right. When I was in the classroom I did origami projects with my students. Some produced beautiful pieces with minimal instruction. Others struggled right along with me. LOL

Thanks to all of you for visiting and have a wonderful weekend!

Damozel – I’m happy you liked this post. I always enjoy what you and Nicholas do for T-13s. The photos the last couple of weeks at BNP were beautiful indeed. I'm also relieved to know I'm not the only one who spends the rest of the week catching up with everyone after the fact. LOL
