Haiku Friday #89 - NaBloPoMo Day 14

Make Time for Small Reflections
My 20th SkyWatch/90th Haiku Friday
is at
Sacred Ruminations.
Gusty winds last night
fanned flames on the hills of South
Santa Barbara

in Montecito.
Burning uncontrollably
2000 acres ...

hundreds of houses
decimated ... dozens more
still at risk today!

Evacuation
of 5000 residents ...
more are 'on stand-by'

to leave quickly if
conditions require. Please pray
for quick containment

and for everyone
affected ... especially
the fire-fighters

facing dangerous
conditions on terrain that
is precarious.

What a sad trial for so many California families. I am so sorry.

I love your autumn picture Virginia...but a sad Haiku. Another upsetting event for so many families in CA. I'm so sorry to hear about it.

So very scary! My thoughts are with the residents.

I heard about that this morning (we still have no tv). I can't remember how much further north you are than me, but I hope you aren't too close! I was hoping since we were past October we could be done with this year's fire season.

Joyce, Joy, Maggie, and Vixen - Thanks for dropping by and commenting. The good news at the moment is the winds have decreased so that planes can drop fire-retardant on the perimeter (in case winds pick up again later) and helicopters can drop water … assisting firefighters on the ground. Currently the fire is still out of control and several people have been injured in addition to the many homes destroyed, yet help from surrounding communities is in the area assisting local fire departments. So far, no other fires have broken out … and THAT’s good news too. I’m located in Orange County … about two and a half hours south of Santa Barbara. Thanks for your concern and prayers.

Very scary.

I am saying a prayer for the families affected by the fires. I can't begin to think what it must be like to lose your home in those circumstances.

It amazes me, the challenges that different parts of the country face. I don't even think about fires, usually--it's just not a threat here. You Californians are in my thoughts!

It seems we are having so much distruction by natural forces. Wind, water, fire --- My heart goes out to those who are losing so much in these fires. Prayerful that it will be contained very soon.

You did an excellent job with the haiku --

I can't believe tomorrow we will be at the half-way mark for NaBloPoMo already!!

Wow...I'm a little (ok, a lot) behind on stuff and I didn't realize how bad things were. My prayers go out to everyone.

How terrifying. I'm so sorry to read this. :(

Seems CA always has fires, one of the reasons I wouldn't want to live there. Hoping you're safe. :)

Ashlie, Chris, Karen, Patsy, Martha, and Melissa – Thanks for your prayers and empathetic thoughts for those affected. Fortunately the winds did calm down for most of the day allowing fire-fighters to gain some control & containment, however the danger remains if winds kick up again tonight and that’s quite probable given the weather conditions and location. I’m no longer watching the television so I don’t actually know what’s happening right now but it’s so WINDY here that I’ve moved my patio furniture so it won’t blow away.

Interesting … I wrote this response last night but must have been interrupted and didn’t publish it before I turned off the computer & headed upstairs and now I find two more comments this morning … so I’ll continue by including

Akelamalu and Lisa -Thanks for dropping by this morning while I was amending a post I’d already written for today at Small Reflections and creating one for Sacred Ruminations. Both have been published.

I’m saddened to report that a new fire broke out around 10pm last night north of Los Angeles just below the foothills of Angeles National Forest. So far 10,000 people to be evacuated from their homes and the fire is burning on three fronts. The good news is that the fire is headed for an area that burned last month … so that could be a natural fire break to stop this one eventually. The bad news is that there’s been almost total devastation of 600 homes in the Oakridge Mobile Home Park. What a heart break for those older retired folks who were safely evacuated, but have lost everything they owned. I wish I had better news.
Hugs and blessings,

You know, I've just realized that it's mid-November, so I'm almost finished with Blog365!

I have you all in my prayers. I have been following the fire stories. We unfortunately have experienced this out here in MT quite a bit. We shall hope for quick containment and the safety of everyone esp. the fire crews.
