I'm smiling BIG TIME today because ...
First - My new office chair was delivered from Staples yesterday and I was able to assemble it all by myself ... completely without tools. I'm delighted to report it's quite comfortable to sit in while I blog (and do other computer tasks and/or work at my desk).

Can you tell which is my old chair and which is my new one?

Yup ... the new one's on the right. I don't know why it took me so long to replace the old orange one (given to me as a gift more than 25 years ago). It's still got lots of 'life' left in it so I'll donate it to a good cause, but I won't miss it ... no siree ;--)

Second - I'm grateful to Harry at Dell Tech Support for helping me work through the 'glitches' in my new laptop this week. Everything seems to be working fine as of this morning ... no more disappearing photos on my blogs or getting 'dumped' in from the Internet in the middle of tasks ... but I'm knocking on wood as I type this because a pop up message just said (in red no less ... 'Blogger couldn't be contacted so the post might not have saved' ... sigh! That does happen occasionally w/o creating problems, so I'm hoping for the best.

Third - I wasn't as fortunate with Paul at Wizetrade Tech Support ... who asked permission to 'access my old laptop remotely' (and I foolishly consented ... against my better judgment), because while he was doing whatever he was doing ... MSN 'encountered a problem and needed to shut down' causing him to lose control of my laptop w/o returning control to me. Whenever I tried to use the mouse, a yellow window popped up telling me 'Paul was in control' ... but on the phone, Paul insisted he didn't have control any longer.

As far as Tech Support guys go, he was pretty rude and frustrating. I'm hoping he was just having a bad day, but he certainly wasn't helpful. Basically he insisted there had something wrong with my laptop and I should take it in somewhere for evaluation and repair. He seemed unable to hear (or accept) my statement that it was working fine until he took control. I eventually ended the call after expressing my frustration and telling him I'd use an XP 'restore point' from the previous day and hope for the best. He, of course, insisted I should take it somewhere for repair (yet again) ... perhaps thinking I hadn't heard him say it at least 20 times previously.

This story DOES have a happy ending (as far as my old laptop is concerned) ... but it was 'iffy' for a while. After using a restore point from Thursday, my McAfee Security Software 'freaked out' and told me my computer wasn't protected, but when I clicked 'fix' it worked it's little heart out for about 90 minutes ... eventually deleting the old data, installing a new update, scanning the computer ... and finally giving me the message that all was well again. Rather than calling WT Tech Support again, I visited their Website ... logged in to download & reinstall the software myself ... and the happy ending is, all seems well at the moment. I do have some 'billing' questions for Customer Service and plan to register my concerns about my experience with Paul ... so I'll call them on Monday.

All's well that ends well ... and that's why I'm smiling today because I'm RELIEVED there's no lasting damage to the old Dell. It's a reminder to trust my intuition and just say no when someone wants to access my computer remotely. I follow directions well and am pretty computer savvy, so I don't need anyone to 'do it for me' ... ever!

Fourth - If you're in need of some chuckles, here are a few links that brightened my day this past week that you might enjoy:
Fun for Linguiphiles & the Rest of Us by LaVeda Mason
Redneck Tree Swing at Baba's Log/Night Owl
Bear in Tree story from Nekked Lizard Adventures
Red State Blue State humor at the Prytz Family
Witty Wednesday by Chris B at Ms Cellania

Fifth - For fun (when time permits) check out Wordle ... brought to my attention this past week at Lunar Musings. There you can generate 'kewl' word clouds like these (clicking on them will make them big enough to read):

All I did was enter my URL and it generated these images,
but you can enter whatever words you choose.
How fun is that?

5. If you haven't checked the way I begin each day, you might enjoy the sunrise in Sky Watch #2 at Sacred Ruminations.

Love the photo of your kitty and your new chair is very swish!

The rest of your post was too technical for me but I'm so happy you got it sorted. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog....my dog's name is Molly too! What a great picture of your kitty! She is just sitting patiently. It's so hard to get my dogs to be still..except for the dalmatian, she loves the camera!

Well I hope your kitty gets to eat soon. I know if it were my kitty he would be trying to eat me by now.He really doesn't like an empty food bowl he will come up and start chomping on your fingers if he isn't fed.

That is so cute! She even has her own pillows to lay on. :o)

The black cat against the white pillows - very cool. I envy you your new chair!!!!! And the word clouds look like fun. I'm going right over there to see what I can create. =)

Akelamalu – ‘Swish’ … now that’s a new one to me, but I assume it’s got positive connotations. Sorry to be ‘technical’ … I was just getting things off my chest this morning as a 'release' and to let folks know why I didn’t get to visit everyone yesterday as intended.

Sobeit – ‘Twas my pleasure. I’m amazed at how common a name Molly is for dogs. In my entire life I’d not encountered one, but since naming Molly … we run into them EVERYWHERE ;--)

Lapa37 – Her dish is empty most of the day because if I leave food in it I end up feeding all the dogs & cats in the neighborhood. She gets fed in the morning when I arise (sometime around 4am) and again in the late afternoon (around 4pm). Being a ‘feral’ cat who used to fend for herself, she’s quite pleased with our ‘arrangement’ and seldom complains … unless I sleep in or return home later than usual. Then she sits on the fence outside my kitchen window and talks to me ;--)

Tammy – Actually, she has a cat bed in a mini-igloo on the deck above my garage, but seldom uses it. This pillow was a gift from my neighbor who passed it over when they got a new pillow for their patio bench. I put it under the chair on the patio and Ms. Kitty readily claimed it as her own.

Eve – I’ll look forward to seeing what you come up with for ‘word clouds’ of your own. I plan to spend some time there again when things calm down … but it may not be for a while because my ‘to-do’ list is lengthy at the moment.

To all – How fun to find your comments as I sat down in my comfy new chair at my lovely new laptop. I feel most fortunate today for sure. Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend … and I’ll visit in a little while, but first I need a snack or perhaps some lunch.
Hugs and blessings,

I certainly hope you filled that food bowl after you took the photo ;-) How could you resist such a sweet face?!?!

Love the cat - gorgeous face. There's kittens at mine.

Glad you sorted out the tech stuff - make sure "Paul" still hasn't got access to your computer.

Wordle is very addictive!

PS - love the new chair too.

Looks like the kitty has quite the life!

I played too :)

storyteller said...

Misty Dawn – She’s hard to resist, but easy to live with … grateful to have a comfy pillow and regular meals w/o having to hunt any longer. The birds in my yard are happier too ;--)

MPJ – Yup … I figured it was time for a bit of comfort since I spend so much time at the computer these days … blogging and working with Photoshop (not to mention email and other writing activities). It’s amazing how much more comfortable this chair is and I wish I’d done this eons ago!

Baby~amore – I’m grateful too … and I hope any future issues can be resolved quickly & easily … w/o stress.

Kahshe Cottager – Hahaha! This kitty is very well fed. She sometimes watches the birds with some sense of nostalgia, but she’s no longer hungry (or fast) enough to catch them … and interestingly, the birds seem to know this.

Me & My Puppies – Definitely true for both Molly and Ms. Kitty ;--)

CrazyCath – I sense you’re right about Wordle. It was hard to drag myself away. I’m wondering if there’s a way to access the ones we create and share there after the fact if we fail to capture the ‘code’ initially. I’ll need to check that out later. No one is going to get remote access to my computers again … ever! I have a memory like an elephant! Thanks … I love my new chair too!

Teena – Yup … she does! LOL I’ll be over soon to check out yours.

To all – I appreciate you each spending a bit of your Saturday visiting and sharing your thoughts. Hope you all having a pleasurable weekend.
Hugs and blessings,

My smiley saturday post was about my cat, and guess what, she looks just like your cat.

Completely black all over and fluffy. Love the chair, I may have to get one myself.

A different Eve.

Excellent post, small reflections! I handed over control to a Norton tech yesterday but everything went okay and he solved my problem. I'm sorry Paul was such a unpleasant guy! Do call and let them know! :)

Mary Ann said...

I get that same response from the IT people at work. They get on remotely to fix one problem then cause another but insist they didn't cause it.

storyteller said...

Eve – I enjoyed my visit to ‘Life as I know it’ and realize you’re ‘a different Eve’ … but thanks for the clarification. It’s nice to meet you. How fun that our cats resemble one another. Mine’s a ‘feral’ cat who adopted me more than a decade ago and lives a pretty good life even though she seldom comes inside. I highly recommend this new chair of mine. It was on sale at Staples last week.

B. Roan – Thanks ;--)

Babooshka – For a stray, she is rather ‘elegant’ in appearance. Of course, she eats regularly and well these days ;--)

Mary, the teach – I’ve handed over control a few times over the years when problems seemed complex and the initial attempts at repair didn’t help … but you can bet I’ll call them Monday, and I won’t allow someone from there to have access to either computer any time soon.

Mary Ann – I usually get a feeling about IT folks … and have been known to thank them and hang up with the problem unresolved only to call again later hoping to get someone else. It’s a particularly useful strategy when there are ‘language’ difficulties … when I can’t understand them, or they have trouble understanding me. I’m just immensely relieved and grateful everything seems to be working on both computers at the moment.

To all – Thanks much for visiting and sharing your thoughts this afternoon and evening. I’m about ready to call it a night, but if I’ve not been to your blog … I promise to visit tomorrow.
Hugs and blessings,

What a cute little cat!

Sorry about the trouble with the technogeek. They don't like it when they're proven wrong.

storyteller said...

Geraldine – Hmm … reading this reminds me that Ms. Kitty is probably wondering where her dinner is. I tried to feed her earlier, but she’s a bit skittish around strangers and the neighbors are having a party. I suspect she’s hungry enough to meander on over by now though, so I’ll feed her when I finish responding.

Sanni – LOL … No need for false modesty among friends. Lily is just adorable surrounded by pink feathery bedding ;--)

Ratmammy – She’s a sweetie for a ‘stray’ ... but since she adopted me more than a decade ago, perhaps she’s no longer a stray. She remains ‘feral’ in many respects, though she loves me, and I her.

Gretchen – Thanks. Yup … and I wasn’t even trying to prove him wrong. I really just wanted help fixing the mess created during the interaction, no matter what the cause. Live and learn I guess.

To all – Thanks so much for dropping by and sharing your thoughts. I hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend and that the week ahead holds many pleasant and interesting experiences.

Christy – Thanks … and I definitely know what you mean about the addictive quality of Wordle. I’m eager to get back to the site and play with possibilities, but I’ve been too busy to get there. That doesn’t mean I don’t think about it while doing other things. LOL

Sandy (ibeati) – Heheheh … Ms. Kitty’s happy today because I’m out of kibble so she’s dining on wet food currently and will get more of the same tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll remember to stop at the store on the way home from my Photoshop class tomorrow ;--)

Hugs and blessings to you both!

Great Wordles! I love the black background.

storyteller said...

Yertle – This site is so much fun. If I had the time, I’d definitely spend more there. The one with the black background IS eye-catching, but I was experimenting at the time to see the possibilities, and liked them all for different reasons! The amazing thing to ME is that these 3 Wordles were generated randomly just by typing the name of this blog on that particular day. I suspect if I did the same thing today (a week later) … I’d get totally different results. When I do return, methinks I’d like to choose words to enter and see what shows up with the arrangement.

Storyteller,

What a great photo!! So cute!

I love your new chair. I'm happy for you. It sure looks comfy!

I think my computer is being goofy today. I couldn't click to enlarge your Small Reflections photos. Internet Explorer shut down on me. What I could see looked fine!

Tina – Why thank you. My chair IS very comfortable. I’m sorry your computer wouldn’t allow you to enlarge my photos here at Small Reflections. I’ve had some difficulty a couple of times with my new laptop and my photos here as well. I noticed just now that when I tried to make the new one bigger, it’s a bit out of focus anyway. Guess I could have paid more attention when I published it. Hope your computer straightens itself out. Thanks for your visit.
