Haiku Friday #29 - Of Oddities and Change

For the past few weeks
this dove has been hanging out
on the fence outside

my kitchen window
driving Molly NUTS each day
pacing on the top

of my aging fence ...
I suspect this bird
has been 'feeding' on

termites and/or what
ever might be living in
slowly rotting wood.

Strangely ... Ms. Kitty
doesn't seem to care a bit ...
although once she would

have been 'stalking' prey
hoping for a delicious
meal ... How times do change ;--)

Sounds like kitty had a full tummy and couldn't be bothered!

That made me a little sad...it sounds like maybe your cat is entering her twilight years. Hoep you have a wonderful weekend.

On the other hand, I'm sure the dove is quite happy that your cat is, for whatever reason, distracted.

What an interesting book Nature is to read.

That reminds me: Have you read any of the great children's books by Joseph Wharton Lippincott such as The Wahoo Bobcat? The children and I got much enjoyment (and education) from his books.

Aww, I love it when birds hang out outside the window :) It drives my dog nuts too.

I think, like humans, most animals become so much more tolerant as they mature. :)

That would certainly upset a bird dog! Esp. a lab. Funny hot that cat's gone into retirement.

and don't you know that dove is on power trip!

And if you listen
she is cooing softly
for her mate

Doves are so pretty, aren't they? We see them sometimes in our back yard. Thanks for sharing the picture of them.

I have an award on my blog for you to pick up and put on your sidebar as you are a regular visitor to my site.

Have a good weekend.

The cat doesn't mind the bird, but the dog does. What a pair! lol

Akelamalu – I suspect you’re right about this. My friend, Carol has often told me that once you feed a ‘feral cat’ they ‘lose their edge’ as hunters. Ms. Kitty still ‘watches’ the birds in the yard with interest … but seldom ‘hunts them’ any longer … probably because she’s satisfied ;--)

Mom24 – Well … she’s getting older, but still seems healthy. Actually I don’t know how old she was when ‘she adopted me’ about a decade ago … but I suspect she was at least 2 or 3 years old … so you could be right.

LceeL – You’ve got THAT right! LOL

Joyce – Yes … I’m quite familiar with Lippincott’s books and suspect they’ll be favorites for a long time ;--)

Sandy – Ya gotta feel for Molly … she’s a ‘bird-dog’ after all … bred to ‘retrieve’ birds and return them to the hunter/companion.

AnglophileFootballFanatic – Yup … it’s hard to watch Molly in her utter frustration. Interestingly, the dove seems unconcerned by the ‘ruckus’ the pooch generates … though she DOES move when Ms. Kitty’s around. As for the cat’s retirement … see my response to Akelamalu above.

Transplanting Me – Perhaps so. Actually … some years ago a dove flew into the windows of my French Doors out front and died. I suspect this ‘lone dove’ might be the ‘mate’ … and that’s a sad thing.

Pamela – Love your Ku comment!!! I suspect you’re right … though it’s hard to hear anything above the fussing Molly does when the dove’s on the fence.

Betty – Something for MOI??? Thanks … I’ll be over to see very soon ;--)

Eve – Yeah … this is true … they ARE an odd pair! I love them both regardless! LOL

It’s always a pleasure discovering comments in the morning! I appreciate each of you visiting Small Reflections and sharing your thoughts … leaving a link back to your blog so I can visit you. I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!

Just yesterday, I was surprised by a pair of doves sitting on my fence. Lovely!

Love the photos--I have to figure out how to do collages! Ms. Kitty is no doubt content with her lot--there's no need to waste energy chasing after birds!

Mama Zen – I do enjoy listening to doves in the mornings and it’s delightful how they sit in pairs … sad when there’s a ‘singular’ one who has lost its mate.

Karen – Thanks! I use Picasa (it’s free and easy) to make my collages, so you might start there to experiment before investing any money on fancy programs. Yup … Ms. Kitty is definitely a ‘contented’ cat!

I almost missed your comments … but fortunately they showed up in gmail as I was clearing it out. I appreciate you visiting as always.
